What is an internship at Paloma Valley High School?
An internship is a worksite experience, typically 3-18 weeks in length, during which a high school senior completes a planned series of activities, set of learning objectives, or project designed to give a broad understanding of a business or occupational area. This is done with the guidance and under the supervision of a mentor at the workplace. By integrating the internship activities or projects at the workplace with school-based learning, the student develops both job and academic skills. An internship culminates in a demonstration of learning jointly evaluated by school and worksite staff. A portfolio is compiled using components of learning throughout the semester or year, depending on the length of the internship, and whether the student is enrolled in one semester, or in both for the entire school year.
