References are statements about your character and abilities. A “reference” should not be used until that person’s permission has been asked for and granted. A relative should not be used as a reference (i.e. parents, brother, or sister, grandparent).

Recommended for today’s successful job search are six references. Three individuals for the Personal References list and three others for the Professional Reference list. References should be listed alphabetically.

Professional References: From former supervisors who know about your on-the-job performance.

Personal References: From teachers, clergy, or friends of the family. These people could mention such qualities as honesty, reliability, and eagerness to learn.

References should include the following information and be listed alphabetically. Matching paper should be used for References and Resume.

References should include:

  • Name
  • Occupation
  • Name of Business
  • Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Number of years known

Recommended are three separate Reference-titled pages. They are: PERSONAL REFERENCES PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES REFERENCES (Consists of a combination of the first two lists)
