2024 Summer School PUHSD Plato Credit Recovery Syllabus

Summer School 2024:
Session 1: June 11 - June 25
Session 2: June 26 - July 11

• Students will be assigned to credit recovery by their counselor to make-up credits for a class they have previously earned a “D” or an “F.”
• This program is designed to give students the opportunity to prove their knowledge and pass the course without having to attend a full semester of direct instruction all over again.
• A student account will be activated by a Plato teacher when the student is first assigned the course by their counselor. 
• The work that students will do is found within the Plato courseware and can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.  
• Focus and determination is the key to getting the work finished.
• Students will work on one course at a time in Plato. Working on one course at a time allows students to finish a course in a timely manner.  Once a student finishes a course, they may begin another course in Plato if they have more credits to recover and/or they desire to work on grade enhancement.
• Students will have one semester to complete any course started in Plato credit recovery.  Failure to do so may result in the restarting of the course from the beginning. Remember that every lesson a student completes is one step closer to finishing a course!

Notes are currently not required to be submitted for the Plato grade. However, students are encouraged to take notes on all tutorials within their course using the guided notes feature. Notes must be handwritten. Notes can be used on all Plato tests.

Cheating in any form will not be tolerated. The following is a partial list of what may constitute cheating:

1. Copying test questions and/or answers from any Plato test
2. Using another student’s Plato notes 
3. Logging in as another student
4. Plagiarizing other’s material
5. Copy/pasting/screenshotting Plato materials to any other source
6. Talking or any type of communication with another student during any Plato test

These actions are not acceptable and in some cases may be illegal. One or more of the following consequences may occur:

1st offense: warning (this syllabus may serve as the first warning) and a zero on the activity 
and/or test 
2nd offense: student will earn a zero on the activity and/or test and will receive a referral 
3rd offense: removal from the program for one grading period and/or have the course restarted from
the beginning
4th offense: permanent removal from the PUHSD Plato program with all completed work voided

Students must take pre, post, and end of semester tests in class with their credit recovery teacher. These tests may not be taken at home. During testing, all cell phones must be out of sight. Students who are caught on any website that is not Plato/Edmentum will receive an automatic zero for the test and a referral. (See Academic Integrity section for more information).

• Unit Pretests - Pretests will be locked and must be done in the credit recovery lab/classroom setting with the student’s assigned teacher. Pretests are optional but can exempt the student from one or more lessons within the unit if they achieve mastery on the pretest. Pretests must be done prior to starting the unit, they will not be unlocked if the unit has been started.
• Tutorials/Mastery Tests - Students may complete unit components in any location with internet access. If a student fails a mastery test they may retake it by rewatching the tutorial. This will unlock the mastery test so that the student can redo it for a higher score. 
• Unit Post Tests – Post tests will be locked and must be done in the credit recovery lab/classroom setting with the student’s assigned Plato teacher.
• Discussions/Unit Activities/Course Activities - Discussions, Unit Activities, and Course Activities are found in most units. These are all mandatory.
• End of Semester Exam (EOS) - The EOS exam will be locked and must be done in the credit recovery lab/classroom setting with the student’s assigned Plato teacher.

Once students have completed the final exam for their assigned Plato course, the student needs to notify the teacher, who will then calculate the course grade based on the following weights listed below.

The following grading weights apply to most courses in Plato. However, please see your teacher for the final grading scale for your specific course as some courses have additional requirements like Course Activities.
